Music and Mental Health

musicOne of the best parts of my life is enjoying music. It takes me to a time when life was simpler and extremely fun. I would hang out with my friends, go dancing and laugh the night away.

I remember hearing a great study about the elderly. They were given music that was popular when they were young. It turns out the songs improved their depression, cognition and energy. This is why it is so valid to listen to your favorite songs.

The reality of our modern world is almost every song is available by looking online. I have found music videos I have not seen in 20 years. This beats when we would watch MTV and wait for a song to play.

When you allow yourself a few minutes of pure joy it helps. I know music has been one of my best therapy tools. It is with me during the highs, lows, joys, sorrows and part of my greatest memories.
